NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting

The NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting is intended for all individuals regardless of previous shooting experience or NRA-affiliation and is available for delivery in two ways. One option is the traditional, instructor-led course where you will receive direct instruction from an NRA-certified instructor from beginning to end. The other option has two components: a self-study module which is completed online in your own timeframe and a hands-on practical portion conducted in a classroom and shooting range with an Instructor. Lake Island NRA Certified Instructor(s)

Several Lake Island members are NRA Certified Instructors and are available to help you complete the NRA Pistol Training. Courses are setup on an as needed basis and are held in our club meeting room and range. Please Note: NRA Pistol Courses are not part of Lake Island's membership qualification and a per course fee may apply. NRA First Steps Pistol

NRA FIRST Steps Pistol is designed to provide a hands-on introduction to the safe handling and proper orientation to one specific pistol action type for classes of four or fewer students. This course is at least three hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot a specific pistol action type. Students will learn the NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; the particular pistol model parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; cleaning the pistol; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, FIRST Steps Course completion certificate.

NJ Permit to Carry Renewal

Members in good standing may register for our quarterly Permit to Carry (PTC) re-qualification class. Sessions cover all topics and live fire range time needed to meet the requirements set by the State of New Jersey including Use of Force. All attendees will be receive signed forms that are submitted to your town's Chief of Police. Class date(s) are posted on our website calendar and are held on an as needed basis.
